Cybersecurity professionals gather to launch the region’s new ISC2 community
The ISC2 East Midlands Chapter held its inaugural meeting on 27 February, marking an important milestone for the regional cybersecurity community. After many months of planning and community effort, the first event brought together cybersecurity professionals from across the East Midlands to connect, share ideas, and begin shaping the future of the chapter.
The evening opened with a welcome from Simon Salmon, Chapter President, who outlined the journey involved in establishing the chapter, introduced the officer team, and shared the vision for the year ahead. The chapter’s mission is to create a strong regional community that supports professional development, encourages collaboration, and promotes cybersecurity awareness across the region.
Following the welcome, Darrel Towndrow, Chapter Membership Lead, spoke about membership and community engagement. The session covered plans to grow the chapter, encourage participation from cybersecurity professionals at all career stages, and develop relationships with other local technology and security communities.
Richard Kirk, Chapter Treasurer, then delivered a short presentation on neurodiversity and inclusion in cybersecurity, exploring the importance of diversity within the profession and how the organisations can help create a welcoming environment for people entering or developing their careers in the field.
The final presentation of the evening was delivered by Nick Woodley, Chapter Secretary, who provided an overview of recent developments in ISO standards and regulatory frameworks. His talk highlighted key changes and practical considerations for organisations working with international security standards.
The meeting concluded with informal networking, giving attendees the opportunity to continue discussions, share experiences, and connect with peers from across the regional cybersecurity community.
The strong turnout and positive engagement from attendees made the evening a successful start for the chapter, and the officers would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions.
We look forward to welcoming both new and returning members at future events as the ISC2 East Midlands Chapter continues to grow and develop.
